Don’t people get what that means. Quilly, Quilly’s Pacific … Paradise?, sort of beat me to the punch on this, but I want to add to the road jam.
Take a look at the following picture:

The Red Light means Don’t Walk. Don’t go to the other side of the road. Stay put where you are. I just don’t get how many people will cross the road on a Red Light. And do you see the White Stripes on the road? That is a Crosswalk. That is where you are suppose to cross the street. Not on either side. Not any where you choose. In The Crosswalk!!
Do you also see the solid hand. DON’T WALK!! If it is flashing and you are in the intersection, you don’t have a lot of time, so keep walking. When it turns solid, it doesn’t mean to start walking to the other side of the street. it means DON’T WALK!!
Now take a look at this picture:

The people in the Crosswalk are doing everything correctly. The light is Green. The Hand, look hard now it’s difficult to see, is White and they are in the Crosswalk. Hooorrraaayyy!!!
Driving the city bus makes you see all kinds of things everyday. One of the most irritating that people do is jaywalk and do not obey the traffic signals. It is so simple. Red – Don’t Walk. Yellow – Move along quickly. Green – Walk. And do it in the Crosswalk. They are painted on the intersections very clearly. Follow the rules so you don’t end up road jam.
Hey, it’s just my opinion.
A Hui Ho

Yesterday as I was entering Kuhio Stepped the light turned green, I stepped on the gas and rolled into the intersection and there was a whole friggin’ parade of people in the midle of the road having some kind of conference and one of them flipped me off for driving through.
Roads are for cars. Sidewalks are for people. It’s a really easy concept. Why don’t people get it?
urg! That’s supposed to say Kuhio STREET. I am so riled about pedestrians in the road that I can’t even type!
You got me. I wish I knew and if I did I’m sure I would be a millionaire or at least get a noble prize LOL
[...] of American Drivers I was going to post on a completely different topic, but Quilly and Thom have been getting into it over the foibles of drivers and pedestrians here in Paradise (a failing [...]
Thom ~ Quilly suggested I stop by and visit your post. As Quilly probably told you I drive Transit Buses as well. Now to add to your post, place the streets with ice and snow like we got now and add an avenue with a C-Train and the Jaywalking.
Another thing that gets me is how stupid some people are and stand right at the curb and defy you to run over them. I’ve been driving the Articulated Buses for the last three weeks, and these puppies are at least 42 tons empty.
The thing that strikes me most as to “How Dumb” some people are, are the drivers who race up to an intersection and put the brakes on at the last second, they usually have a cell phone stuck to the ear and never look to their left to see if anything is coming. When they eventually look up and see me they give me this look as I’ve invaded their space and they can see no wrong”.
Stop by the blog one of these days, and you will here me rant about my days behind the wheel.
Cheers
Bill
Quilly ~ Don’t drive for Public Transit, you will constantly be fighting the urge to run them over.
OMG Bill. You so hit the nail on the head with your comment. Everything is so true. I’m far from over with my ranting and driving behind the wheel also…The being right on the edge of the curb is just infuriating. And bicycle riders…oh wait…i’ll post on that one also. I will make sure to visit your site daily. Thanks for stopping by. Hope you do often
Yes I forgot about the Bicyclists especially the ones who hitch a free ride by grabbing onto a bus or truck and getting along the street. The best though is when they come up right beside you and get in the way by wanting to go straight through the intersection from the Right Turning lane. There are days I am glad I am parking the bus back onto Lane Seven at the Garage.
Oh I’ve added a link on my blog for your site.
Cheers
bill
PS, I hope you’ve been by and seen some of the pictures I’ve posted.
Thanks for adding my blog to yours. I did the same. Yes those bicyclists can be a royal pain. I’m going to do a post tomorrow just on that subject. I read your post and left a comment tonight and it’s getting late, but I will go back and see the pictures tomorrow. Aloha my friend.
