I Just Dont Like Poetry

The title says it all. This morning I emailed Quilly Quilly’s Pacific…Paradise? and asked her how long this poetry stuff was going to last. She informed me that is is Poetry Month or something like that. ACK! A whole month?

I tried doing this. I don’t like writing it or reading it. Just doesn’t make any sense too me. The rocks in my brain just don’t register with poetry.

The way I look at it we all have something that we just can’t get into. I know that I could try harder but I just don’t enjoy it. Some of you don’t like TV and movies. Hey, that’s cool. I so admire those of you that write, read and understand it. It just isn’t for me.

So if I don’t comment on your poetry posts that’s why.

Hey, it’s only my opinion.

A Hui Ho

What a sourpuss one must be,
    To not enjoy poetry!

    ;)

That’s okay, Thom. You don’t have to like my poetry or comment on it. I skip reading most of your TV stuff because it makes no sense to me.

    What Quilly said
    was in my head
    and now it’s here
    so don’t you fear
    we still love you
    No, we really do
    you turn up your nose
    at the lack of prose
    but just wait and see
there will be more than poetry.

It’s ok Thom. I know it’s painful but the challegne of whipping something out in 24 hours is something I can not miss.

Don’t worry! I have no poetry brains and I’m not a great writer for that matter either. I’m sitting here wrecking my brains trying to produce a post for the three word challenge, and I “gotz nutt’in’” up until now!
It’s a good thing we’re all different, that’s what makes this interesting! ;-)

ROFL! See? Now you know! I don’t get TV… you don’t get poetry! Works for both of us! And it’s okay! You do NOT have to read OR comment on my poetry — and I won’t EVEN hold it against you! There – now you’re off the hook! I will come back tomorrow to read about Devon though!

See, you’re not alone in this poetry thing. :) I like to read some, but sometimes I just don’t get it. And writing it, forget about it. My brain really doesn’t work that way. I’ve had some really bad examples when I’ve felt particularly masochistic, but mostly it’s an exercise in futility. But that’s part of why I admire poets so much because they can do something I can’t, even if I don’t always “get” it.

fair enough, thom. i don’t give a damn about tv shows (in truth, i never knew half of those existed, and for the other half i reckon we’re seeing episodes a few seasons old, and i don’t watch most of them anyway).
i don’t consider myself a poet either and must be in the right mood to read and appreciate any poetry longer than 3 lines although i’m good (and i mean good enough to win a few awards and be published in some ezines) at haiku.

That’s ok Thom, I don’t do poetry either, in fact you know I don’t do much tv either. There is only one poem that I know word for word, it’s titled “Fleas” and it goes as “Adam Had Em”. And this isn’t even my poem, I heard it some where else.

    cheers

Now if someone starts a Limerick Contest, I am in there with some. Thought my blog might become X-Rated hahahahahhaha.

    A few weeks back
    He said he couldn’t write,
But look at all he’s done.
He says for poetry he has no knack.
Oh, Thom, come on, and try the fun!

    :)

Notice, I’m not doing it. For me poetry should just flow from within about something that has meaning for you. The best poetry I’ve ever written came from a moment that grabbed me, not from a prompt.
And, from what I’ve seen of your writing I see Devon writing a love poem to Gracie. ;)

That’s a good possiblity Carletta about Devon. Thanks. And yes I agree…you shouldn’t have to struggle with poetry…maybe I’ll get there one of these days. I love your poem :)
