Borrowing from Raven, View from Raven’s Nest, which I hope she doesn’t mind, she posted this today:
“On another note: Tomorrow, March 28, 2009, from 8:30 to 9:30 you might want to participate in something called “Earth Hour,” an effort to focus on global warming. For one hour, you are asked to take the simple step of turning your lights off. That’s it. Save an hours worth of energy… multiplied by hopefully a million other people around the world. Not much of a sacrifice and good food for thought.”
You can visit Earth Hour here.
I am going to do this and Raven put it so well, many thanks Raven, that I hope everyone participates.
Hey, it’s just my opinion.
A Hui Ho

I think we will be driving home from Bruges around that time tomorrow evening, so it would be difficult to dim the lights of the car. I hope our government puts the lights out on our highways. It is said ( and no, I don’t think it’s a myth) that you can see Belgium from SPACE!! There is no place on earth that has so many lights along their roads as we do!
That it would and you have to think of safety first. Wow I didn’t know that about seeing Belgium from space…but can’t you see every country from space since you are so high up in the air? LOL.
Yes,of course you can but Belgium pops out!! You actually can see the lights!
That’s because I live there!!! LOL
Do you have a picture??
Not one of my own, no!
Gonna have to google it then after work Aloha!
Between 2030 hrs and 2130 hrs I will be at work. About the only thing at home taking power will be my electric alarm clock, everything else will be off or unplugged. As for my bus burning Bio-Friendly Diesel, Well I guess you can’t have everything.
Cheers
So true Bill and I will be asleep most likely anyways because I start so early on sunday morning
Hey where on your blog are the pictures of your graduation pictures for the bus?
Well Thom, I am disappointed in my fellow Calgarians, when I was driving my 45 though the two residential areas, lots of houses had lights on.
At least this Calgarian observed the no lights between 2030 and 2130 hrs.
Cheers. Bill
PS, I thought about turning off the lights on my bus, including Head Lamps but thought better. (He Laughs)
I think the same happened here also. I fell asleep and did make sure my TV was off before hand at least so I can’t tell ya how everyone else did.
Just click on July 2008 under the archives and you can read the whole month of July, including the graduation, or click on this link http://oldfartproductions.blogspot.com/2008/07/graduation.html to see just the graduation.
Thank you Bill…that’s awesome..you poor people have to wear ties YIKES…we wear aloha shirts. I’ll try and get a picture soon. I don’t think I’ve ever taken one in my uniform, as it is
Ties only required during training, then become an option after graduation and actually working. I may wear my tie on Sunday (emphasis on May).
Cheers
LOL…there ya go…have a good day. I’m off to work. Damn I just get back and they already call to work my day off it never ends
Enjoy your Day at Work, I am out the door soon as well
Enjoy your’s as well
Hey Thom
Just wondering what kind of buses you drive. With Calgary Transit I get to drive the old GMC Fishbowls, and the MCI Buses built by Greyhound, But lately where I am signed out of Victoria Park Garage , I’ve only been driving the New Flyer Low Floors, the 40′ and 60′ Articulated Buses that are Kneelers.
Cheers
Bill
Sorry it took me so long to get back on this. I saw it and got distracted and well…Most of our fleet are Gillig’s. All of them have lifts. We have about 50 that are low riders..no stairs which is great. We also have NewFlyers. On those we have about 50 Diesel/Electric Hybrid and the Articulated on those. I’ve taken some pictures from work today and will get them downloaded hopefully by tomorrow. I see also that a new bus just came in this week. Have no idea what it is. It’s funny looking. I’ll keep you posted on that
Looking forward to your pictures, had to do a google search on the Gillig’s, they look like a fun bus to drive. I love driving the Articulated buses, I’ve seen pictures of Artic’s that bend in the middle twice. Now these would be fun to drive. Still waiting for you to twist Quilly’s Rubber Arm, (Though lately she seems to be into Rubber Plants ~ I guess she got High Hopes)
ROFLMAO…too funny. I’ve never seen a double bending artic. I don’t drive them all that often. I’m not on the route that calls for them, but I do enjoy them also.
Thank you Bill as I said in the other comment I will look at these on Friday. Thank you so much my friend
*:30 is my bedtime, so I’m in on this every night.
*:30 LOVE it Nessa ACK a grandbaby name perphaps from GM Nessa
I think this is a noble gesture but I wonder if it helps anything.
Dr. John — OC says it doesn’t. He says it is a symbolic gesture which changes nothing and if we want turning off the lights to truly make a difference, we need to do it EVERYDAY, consistently.
As do I … as I said to Quilly…it’s the thought that counts
Thom — if everybody on this island reached up and turned the lights out at the same time, we’d blow the power generators and be in the dark 18 plus hours again!
The Wickham and Schofield are powering down all “unnecessary” lights, and a at least one of the bases is providing a free movie to anyone in military housing who wants to shut off their lights and go watch.
If everybody wanted to have a big impact on global warming, they’d all park for 24 hours, world-wide. Nothing rolls but emergency vehicles, public transport and muscle powered conveyances — bikes, skates, horse, mule, dog sled ….
Oh,, and OC says this won’t do a dang bit of good, either. If you want to know why, go read his latest post!
Leave it to the scientist to ruin my thought of doing something good for a change ROFLMAO Dang it. Well it’s the thought that counts I suppose
Quilly, I am glad you included Transit, or I’d be having the Day Off, Good Idea, lets not include Transit.
Agreed Bill
Sorry guys. Some of us still need to get to work — including you two!
Blah Blah Blah
Sorry Quilly ~ I can’t take the bus to work as I drive the bus so folks like you can get to work, I have to drive my Cobalt (I wish I bought a new truck in 2007 instead of the car ~ But that’s another story).
Bill I did the same thing. First time I’ve ever owned a car. Always had a truck and I hate the Focus I have. Quilly on a bus? Pleeease
Anything is possible Thom, even getting Quilly on a bus. God help the person though who barked out of turn or the kid with the noisy I~Pod and wont’ turn it down. Imagine if she was driving the bus.
LOL. There aren’t enough “help” words in the English language if she drove bus. LOL
Thom
It would be the best behaved bus in the system if she drove a bus. I could use Quilly on one of the School Run I had. Heheheheh. Oh, I sent you some pictures, hope you got them.
Bill
Thom
PS, here are a couple of links for you, My buddy Tom who drives for CT has this site http://busdrawings.com/ and here is another site that you might find of interest. http://www.barp.ca/photo_index2.html
Enjoy
Bill
Well I think you are right on that one. I got the pictures and will look at them in a couple of days. Tomorrow I have my company physical before work and the next day and eye exam so I will get to them on Friday. Thanks for the email
