Devon’s Bird of Prey
All that Oscar could see happen was the harrowing escape by the two volgivagant grasshoppers. He doesn’t know how they escaped the clutches of the cynicocratical bird of prey, but they did and the fracas that they created made him forget all about the beautiful music he yearned from the zither he had imagined. She was a beauty, Oscar noted. Every talon of her perfectly formed claws were isangelous to one another. Her beak: sharp and pointed like that of a perfectly formed arrow. It was as if she knew she could be opprobrious to all the small creatures as she saw fit, even though her kind was a very paucity society. Her keen eyes sparkled as if full of shiny gold coins displayed promptly in man’s numismatics. They spoke volumes of the perspicacious attitude she flaunted. The feathers that covered her muscled body were in perfect form. Anyone looking at her would know it was casuistry in order to deceive her prey from attack. And her voice. Oh that voice. It was fierce and piercing just like the time when she took his quondam spouse into her grasp and devoured her right before his eyes. He hated her and everything she stood for. But her beauty was stunning.
Within an instant, she was winging her way into the still air, soaring higher and higher. Escaping the reality that she didn’t capture her prey, she let her mind begin its apanthropinization. She was such a failure today. Her third miss. She knew back home, her two young ones were squawking wildlyand loudly. They need their nourishment and she is failing. She was so hitonious it disgusted her. She continued soaring over the weald and vowed she would never be a gravid mother again.
“What kind of mother am I?” she thought as the tears began to well in her eyes. “I should have taken Oscar. But oh no. I wanted two for the price of one.” She continued her flight, feeling the hot sun beating on her back and the cool breeze speeding through her long luscious quills. Looking down with her piercing eyes, she sees Devon and Gracie. “I will get you one of these days, I promise you that” she spat!
Oscar, being very mellifluous, bid the two grasshoppers goodbye and quickly swam away. He had enough teterrimous thoughts for the day, and it was only mid morning.
Grace and Devon starred at each other and began to laugh.
“Wow Gracie” Devon said with excitement. “That was a close call. We were near death,” he said as he looked up and saw the bird of prey flying away. The beauty of the blue sky made him feel safe for the moment.
“Touche’ Devon,” she whispered. Her eyes moving back and forth, thanking her lucky stars to still be alive and knowing that Devon wouldn’t mind if she had bit the dust. Or so she thought. And at the same time…..
Oh the life of the lightning bug.

Pingback: Quilly’s Pacific … Paradise? :: Three Word Thursday #5
Wow! Every word of Quilly’s plus gravid and weald. You are indeed a player with words.
Your assignment if you wish to accept it is next week take all of Quilly’s words and mix them with next week’s Raven’s words. Oh! What a glorious story that would be.
Thank you Dr. John. Hmmmmmmmm Interesting challenge. I shall have to look into that.
They got away. You made us feel sorry for the bird of prey.
Stay tuned Betty…
Great story, Thom, but I have a couple of quibbles (not to be mistaken with Dr. John’s Quivels): this is post #5! Three words per post = 15 words; 15 divided by 3 = post #5!
AND, I thought Devon was a grasshopper? So, the bird did eat them and they were instantly reincarnated into lightening bugs?
I hope your visit home is going well. Stay safe!
How could I have made that mistake. Corrected now. You are thinking to far ahead of yourself Quilly…stay tuned…And thank you, yes the visit is going well. The last of the family arrives later today so I’ve got a little bit of time to get caught up. Mom is doing great. Thank you for caring
Whew! Glad the swimmers escaped. I have faith that the baby birds will still get breakfast somehow.
I do indeed hope they do Raven. And If you have noticed Dr. John’s challenge…gonna be a big task not this Thursday but next Thursday…good thing the plane ride home is a long one !!!
Poor mommy!
It might take some time but I think she will get in a better frame of mind
wow, you used them all!
and now you make me feel sorry for the bird.
I think she will be okay…at least let’s hope she is
Well, Thom, you must be bucking for major brownie points with a story like this… using all those words from weeks past. Very well done. However, I must admit that I am feeling torn between joy for the grasshoppers being safe, and sadness for the hungry birds.
)
Thank you Alice. I am hoping all turns our well also. We shall just have to wait and see
Whoof!! That silly bird will have to get fast to catch them ‘hopppers. Maybe she should order in fur her kids. BARK!
LOL. Good idea Reba
Very exciting. I can’t wait for the next installment.
Thanks Nessa…it could be a little difficult. See Dr. John’s comments. I might try that
Thom!
I’m again loving this little story. I did feel sorry for the bird of prey but I’m glad Gracie and Devon are safe. They are safe arent’ they?
I’m glad Quilly introduced us to you.
Carletta I’m so lucky to have been introduced to all of you. I think my two Grasshoppers will be safe always. I have sorta gotten attached to them LOL
